Janet James

Janet James is an established artist whose work continues to gain significant recognition. From her studio in Cheltenham, Janet hones her painting with an experimental approach working predominantly with oils. Janet draws inspiration from her travels whether locally in the Cotswolds or further afield in Wales, Scotland and mainland Europe. From a series of reportage sketches and first hand photographic reference, Janet returns to the studio to create an individual, investigative and intuitive interpretation. The juxtaposition of simple textures and mark making, applied using brushes, palette knives, fingers and thinning techniques, create works which are both abstract and contemporary, alluding to a more spiritual elucidation.
